Walking through the Guangzhou jewelry wholesale market feels different from Yiwu. There’s more emphasis on design. At Lihuwan Plaza, we noticed that nearly 40% of the booths we visited were run by independent designers. Qingdao’s jewelry industry has deep ties to South Korea. We were surprised to learn that nearly 300 Korean-owned or Korean-influenced jewelry factories operate in Chengyang alone. The designs here mirror what’s trending in Seoul—often 3 to 6 months ahead of the rest of China.

Unlike Yiwu’s “pile it high, sell it fast” approach, Qingdao’s strength lies in originality. Many factories we visited are vertically integrated—they design, manufacture, and sell directly.
